About the Maker
Wesley
W. Davis
Bladesmith
Wesley
Davis has been interested in knives for a number of years now, after getting
introduced to the art from various friends and acquaintances. He has
made different styles of knives from Hunters to
Bowies
to Slip-joint Folders. All of the work on his knives is done "in
house" from forging, heat-treating, grinding, to finish work. Because
of the high expectations that Wesley Davis sets for himself, his knives are of
the utmost quality.
Wesley has
been making knives since March 2004. He took his introductory forging
class with Josh Smith and Harvey Dean at the
Bill
Moran
School
of Bladesmithing at Texarkana
College. In October of 2006 Wesley took a Damascus
class with Steve Dunn. He received his ABS Journeyman Stamp in June of
2007 at the Blade Show and International Cutlery Fair in
Atlanta, Georgia. Desiring to learn engraving, Wesley completed
a Basic Engraving course under Steve Dunn in August
2007.
Wesley's
mentors in his knife-making have been Harvey Dean and Bill Ruple. He
received his training for his Journeyman Stamp through Harvey Dean.
The art of slip-joint folders he learned through Bill Ruple. Without the patience
of men like Harvey and Bill, the art of knifemaking would soon become extinct.
